Masks know a general classification which gives protective masks, carnival masks and theatrical masks.
they have established themselves in the theater and since ancient Greece have become a fundamental dramaturgical component.
they are very diverse and play particularly diverse and different functions.
from the point of view of the use reserved for them, they are either playful, aesthetic or religious.
while their playful dimension derives from the entertainment that characterizes the theater, the so-called aesthetic dimension derives from the artistic prowess of the craftsman who makes them.
as for their religious dimension, it draws its deep origins from the fundamentally religious ancient Greek theater through its emanation from the cults in honor of the god Dionysus.

Les masques connaissent une classification générale qui donne des masques de protection, des masques de carnaval et des masques de théâtre.
Ils se sont imposés au théâtre et sont devenus depuis l’Antiquité grecque une composante dramaturgique fondamentale.
Ils sont très divers et jouent des fonctions particulièrement diverses et différentes les unes des autres.
Du point de vue de l’usage qui leur est réservé, ils sont soit ludiques, soit esthétiques ou religieux.
Pendant que leur dimension ludique vient du divertissement qui caractérise le théâtre, celle dite esthétique découle des prouesses artistiques de l’artisan qui les fabrique.
Quant à leur dimension religieuse, elle tire ses origines profondes du théâtre antique grec fondamentalement religieux par son émanation des cultes en l’honneur du dieu Dionysos.
