the current study aims to know the pedagogical teaching competencies of teachers of history departments at the universities of Baghdad and al-Mustansiriya.

to achieve the goal of the research, the researcher followed the descriptive approach, and a number of procedures, including defining the research community, which was limited to teaching history departments specializing (ancient history, Islamic history, modern and contemporary history) in the faculties of education and basic education in the universities of Baghdad and al-Mustansiriya.

for the academic year 2019/2020 ad, the number of (189) teachers are distributed among the faculties of education and basic education in the universities of Baghdad and al-Mustansiriya.

the researcher used the questionnaire as a tool to collect his research data prepared by means of the exploratory study, previous studies and literature related to the subject of the research, and after verifying its validity by presenting it to experts, and its stability by re-testing, the tool became in its final form consisting of (69) distributed over (7) the main areas are (content knowledge, learner characteristics, knowledge of the teaching context, knowledge of educational goals and values, pedagogical knowledge of pck content, general pedagogical knowledge, curriculum knowledge).

the teaching competencies represent the pedagogical competencies that teachers of history departments should practice in the faculties of education and basic education at the universities of Baghdad and al-Mustansiriya.

the researcher used a number of statistical methods to analyze the results of his research : (the chi-square test, the validity of the paragraphs in the arbitrators’ responses, the Pearson correlation coefficient to calculate the stability of the tool, the equation of the weighted mean and the percentage weight to know the availability of the pedagogical teaching competencies necessary for teachers of history departments at the universities of Baghdad and al-Mustansiriya, and the order of the fields each field separately.

the study resulted in several results, including : determining (69) pedagogical adequacy for teachers of history departments in the faculties of education and basic education at the universities of Baghdad and al-Mustansiriya, distributed over seven main areas.

in light of the previous results, it was concluded that “the teachers of history departments in the faculties of education and basic education at the universities of Baghdad and al-Mustansiriya have weak possession of pedagogical teaching competencies, and the research came out with a number of recommendations and suggestions.
