Abstract EN

This research discussed the relations between Yemen Arab Republic and the Socialist Republics, such as Democratic People Republic of Korea, German Democratic Republic, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania during the period (1962-1974).

Owing to the great importance of the stability of countries, the research aimed at studying the foreign relations in light of the treaties and agreements signed with such countries.

It was clear through this research that these relations went under three stages: The First Period: covered the period 1962-1967, which was during the rule of Marshal Abdulla Al-Sallal.

This period was characterized by a clear cooperation which had benefited Yemen a lot in all areas.

The Second Period: covered the period from November 1967 to March 1970, during which Yemen had experienced political developments that led to: - The independence of Southern Yemen on 30 November 1967 and the birth of the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen; - The withdrawal of the Egyptian Arm from Yemen in December 1967; - The reestablishment of relations with the Federal Germany in 1969; - The dialogue with Saudi Arabia and the royalists that led to political settlement in March 1970.

Although the Yemen Arab Republic had maintained continual relation, it was not as positive as that of the first period with all the countries.

The Third Period: after the political reconciliation in 1970 up to 13 June 1974, Yemen Arab Republic had established political and diplomatic relations with the western countries which stood against the revolution.

This made the socialist countries stop their support to Yemen Arab Republic, while maintaining minimal political relations.

They turned to the state of Southern Yemen after independence.
