Abstract EN

This study tries to analyze the basic premises and bases of the concept of the symbol in political philosophy, in light of revealing its cognitive semantics and its functions.

the study started from a basic hypothesis that it tries to prove it, I mean that there is a complete difference between the positions of philosophers in regarding the meaning of the symbol and its role in building political theory, this mainly due to the difference in their visions on the symbol, whether these starting points and premises are existential, or Marxist, or liberal, or phenomenological, or structural, or deconstructive.

therefore, we have defined the scope of our research by studying the attitudes of certain group of political philosophers about the symbol, in the light of three basic approaches: the semiotic, the epistemological, and the ideological one.
