Abstract EN

Wooden doors are among the traditional aspects of the Omani neighborhood and a prominent element in its architectural history.

The study of these doors shows their vulnerability to the philosophy of some art schools, such as the engineering abstract school, represented in the style of the artist Piet Mondrian, in an attempt to achieve new plastic formulations on ceramic surfaces.

The research assumes the possibility of benefiting from such doors in enriching ceramic tiles.

The problem is defined in the following question: is it possible to create plastic formulations on ceramic surfaces through the traditional doors of Oman ؟The research aims to study the Omani traditional doors, their types, cultural framework, and important elements, that includes the customs and beliefs to which the doors belong, in an attempt to classify and analyze some of their units in terms of their forms and symbols.The research follows two axes: the first approaches the philosophy and industry of ancient Omani doors, their types, characteristics, presentation, description, and analysis of their traditional features, and identifying the philosophy of the engineering abstract school.The Second handles experimenting a sample of art-education students forming ceramic tiles through the aesthetics of traditional motifs, and reformulating them in light of the philosophy through the structural system of traditional doors insight of the characteristics of the abstract school, then analyzing them scientifically.The results showed the alignment of the hypotheses and objectives of the research in finding values that have contemporary features by making use of Mondrian's abstract plastic construction, the clay material showed its capability of modification and modernization, due to its malleability and ability to be experimented by art-education students .

The researcher endorses the importance of heritage, as it is a source of modern arts, and pursuing linking folklore with modern and emerging arts.
