Abstract EN

As a matter of fact, fashion is an indication of the civilization and culture of peoples.

Its details, including shapes, materials, colors, symbols, and styles of decoration, reflect the dimensions and situations prevalent in different societies.

It clearly shows the customs, traditions and beliefs of the era it represents.

This is what bestows its historical and cultural value in every society, era and civilization.

Therefore, fashion can be described as a visual language linked to the contents of identity through the symbols it contains.

Perhaps the most prominent theories that can be relied upon in the analysis and interpretation of these symbols and their identification are the theories of semiotics which investigate the relationship between the signifier and the signified.

Therefore, the significance of this study is represented in the attempt to shed light on the complementary link and common links between identity, symbol and fashion in light of the theories of semiotics with the aim of determining the relationship between identity, symbol and fashion.

This study used the descriptive and analytical methodology.

Among the most important results of the study is that fashion is one of the types of plastic arts that emerged from the circle of utility into the circle of political, social, economic, cultural, artistic and aesthetic expression.

Among the most prominent recommendations of the study is the need to pay attention to studies concerned with analyzing the implications of symbolic details in fashion with the aim to open new scientific horizons which reveal the truth of the details of life and human civilization and add to the fields of science and knowledge thereof.
