Abstract EN

The study dealt with the detection and analysis of changes in land cover patterns of the Aden peninsula during the period 1987-2017 using the applications of remote sensing and geographic information systems.

this study used the satellite imagery of the LandSat-TM (thematic mapper) for 1987 and a satellite view of the landsat8 (oli-tirs) for the year 2017 and the european satellite (Sentinel-B2) for the year 2017, in addition to the available data and information on the subject of the study.

The study data has been processed by (Arc Gis10.6 & Erdas imagine2015), and has used the maximum likelihood classifier to monitor and analyze the land cover classes, and this research has adopted Anderson's system in the classification of land cover patterns.

the study found that there are four types of land cover in the study area (urban lands, agricultural lands, water, barren lands), and the study revealed a change in the areas of these land covers, where the results of the study showed an increase in the area of lands built on the account of water and barren lands the reason for this is due to the increase in population, immigration and incoming to the study area of the governorates, in addition to the increase in the area of agricultural lands due to the state's adoption of development projects represented in the cultivation of islands located between the roads, as well as the return of some natural plants.
