English Abstract

This study aims at identifying the relationship between the mental image and the self-concept among the children of the divorced and the non-divorced parents in the governorate of the Gaza Strip.

To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used the descriptive analytical approach.

The study sample consisted of (300) son and his daughter of (150) divorced parents, and (150) non-divorced parents.

The researcher used two tools: the scale of the mental image and the scale of the self-concept, both were prepared by the researcher.

The most important findings of the study: 1- The mental image of children on divorced parents got a relative weight of 55.7%, which is at an average level, while the mental image of children of non-divorced parents got a relative weight of 76.2%, which is a high level.

2- The self-concept of divorced parents' children got a relative weight of 57.6%, which is at an intermediate level, while the self-concept of non-divorced children got a relative weight of 69.7%, which is a high level.

3- There is a statistically significant direct relationship between the mental image and the level of self-concept among the children of the divorced parents as well as the non-divorced.

4- There are no statistically significant differences in the mental image of the children of the non-divorced parents attributable to (gender, age, and custodian) variables, while there are statistically significant differences in the mental image of the children of the divorced parents attributed to the variable (custodian), and the differences were in favor of the father.

5- The study showed that there are differences in the mental image of the children of the non-divorced parents attributable to (gender) variable, and the differences were in favor of the females, and differences attributed to the age variable and the differences were in favor of the age from 9-12 years.

6- The study showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the self-concept among the children of the divorced parents attributable to (gender, age, and custodian).

7- The study showed that there are statistically significant differences in self-concept of the children of the non-divorced parents attributable to (gender) variable, and the differences were in favor of the males, while there were no differences in the self-concept attributed to (age) variable.

The most important recommendations of the study: The study recommended that children should be cared for when after divorce.

They should be away from the problems of the divorced parents.

Extra attention and love should be given to children all the time basis because of its positive impact on the personality of children.
