The article deals with the reaction and the attitude of the Association of Algerian Muslim Ulema (Scholars) towards the French assimilation policy, this policy was applied by the French colonialism in order to integrate the Algerians in French culture and society.

Few Algerian militants and elites accept this project many others such as Association of Algerian Muslim Ulema fight against this policy in order to conserve the Algerian identity, and what was consequences of the question?.
