This article aims to extrapolate the motives and objectives of employing metasubjectivism in the novels the armies of the night by Norman Mailer and the deer’s blood by Merzak Bagtash.

both novels belong to two literary phenomena : new journalism in the sixties in America, and crisis literature in the nineties in Algeria.

during those historical eras, the resulting narrative texts and stylistic choices were the product of current political and social events in these countries, which is represented in the massive popular protests against the Vietnam war in America and terrorism during the dark decade in Algeria.

thus, this research attempts to grasp the relationship between employing metasubjectivism in the two novels and the socio-political context in both America and Algeria.
