Abstract EN

This paper investigates the notion of Sacred and Profane, or normal, time through one of the pioneering contemporary thinkers, Mircea Eliade, who made every effort to show that, for the religious man, there are two distinct types of time: a sacred and a worldly time, and that among these two types of time, the most valued is the sacred one, where man can restore and repeat it in a cyclic manner by celebrating it through practicing related rituals and by re-counting myths.

Sacred time can also be re-actualized by partaking in certain religious ceremonies and events, which, in fact, represents a major part of the religious experience of individuals and groups.
