The manifestations of global bipolarity still exist in the environment of the current international system.

the necessities of the new strategic environment necessitated a reconsideration of the strategies inherited from the cold war, of which the strategies of deterrence and containment were the cornerstone, and a shift from a system of international blocs in conflict on an ideological basis to a system of geopolitical competition based on cultural and civilizational diversity.

the emergence of poles or alliances of rival powers with the united states of America, strategically rethinking in the atmosphere of the cold war once more, and reviving the theory of deterrence and containment in a broader field related to the global containment of the rising powers in the world.

from this point, this study seeks to analyze the problems of the current international system based on competition over spheres of influence and the reopening of the issue of nuclear deterrence and its spread among some emerging regional powers in light of the deterioration of Russian-American relations, and the spread and exacerbation of international crises and regional conflicts, which leads us to conclude that the cold war may resume.

the study drew on nuclear deterrence theory: its assumptions and applications, as the most important approaches developed by international relations and defense thinkers and used by major powers in the management and conflict prevention.
