Abstract EN

Women empowerment is a systematic process involving transformative measures which contribute to changing the prevailing mindset of women subordination by means of systematic strategies and policies for development.

these encompass a host of activities and programs launched at various local and regional levels.

global attention to women issues and to the importance of their engagement in development, equality and peace has significantly increased.

the government devotes attention to Emirati women, and encourages them to assume their roles and exercise their rights to development and advancement of society.

study is intended to identify government’s role in empowering women in the context of coronavirus pandemic circumstances from the viewpoint of working women in the emirate of Sharjah.

study used descriptive, analytical method; study sample comprised (300) women working in the emirate of Sharjah.

findings have shown that, based on study sample’s viewpoints, government’s role in empowering women in light of coronavirus pandemic circumstances was average.

additionally, there were no statistically significant differences in government’s role in empowering women in light of coronavirus circumstances in all relevant dimensions including study tool as a whole according to the variables of marital status and occupation.

similarly, no statistically significant differences were found as regards government’s role in empowering women in light of coronavirus pandemic circumstances (economic, institutional and legal empowerment) according to academic qualification variable as per study sample’s viewpoints.

however, statistically significant differences existed in such role (social empowerment) according to academic qualification variable, in favor of PhD holders in all relevant areas except for social empowerment.
