Fingerprint is a distinctive characteristic in identity verification, and is also deemed conclusive evidence in case of match.

this study throws the spotlight on fingerprint deficiencies in identity verification in case of skin damage which causes fingerprint to be temporarily, or permanently unclear, or in case of fingerprint faking using ai, creating silicon fingerprint of another person and leaving the same at crime scene.

the silicon fingerprint belongs to a person who was not present at all at crime scene.

descriptive, analytical method was used; the study consists of two chapters: the first of which covers fingerprint as a means of identity verification; while the second the precautions of using fingerprint in identity verification or relying on it in judicial applications.

key findings of the study included: concern about the widespread use of silicon fingerprints as criminal techniques have become more sophisticated and the adoption of such sophisticated criminal techniques, particularly those used by organized crime gangs to disguise identity.

these include plastic surgeries to change facial features, or limbs.

key recommendations included: research has shown that fingerprint scan is most commonly used in biometric documentation, so, authentication systems should not rely solely on fingerprints.

study also recommended the adoption of face, iris recognition systems and adding general data being the most appropriate solution.
