Grammarians exerted extra-ordinary efforts in establishing the linguistic rules.

They derived language from the main sources that they unanimously agreed on, i.

e.

the Holy Quran, the Prophet's speech, and the Ar' speech legacy including verse and prose.

They intended to seek meticulousness and comprehensiveness in establishing the grammatical and linguistic rules in general.

The Quranic readings were also considered part of the sources because they are associated with the Holy Quran on the one hand, and with the Arab dialects on the other.

Ibn Jinni tried hard to draw up a rule for each reading where he exercised unnecessarily great exaggeration and much overdoing to prove them valid, whilst not all the readings are necessarily used or put in practice.

This study spots the points where exaggeration in Al-Muhtasib is exercised, showing the rare readings of Ibn-Jinni and the nature of exaggeration applied with reference to common usage, standard and the rules emphasized by linguists.
