This paper highlights the direct and indirect causes and factors that led and helped the emergence and spread of castles in central and southern Iraq during the Ottoman era.

There is no doubt that a vital and effective region has its influence and impact, such as middle and southern Iraq, it is difficult to investigate all the facts required for this research, and to find out the details of the reasons that led to the construction of castles in them, except that we hope from this research in its three discussions the geographical and strategic location of Iraq and its role in this field And the nature of the Ottoman rule in Iraq, which clearly appeared to be a purely military nature in the administration, systems, and social formation that resulted in the militarization of Iraqi society and turned it into a society drenched behind the walls of castles and muddy towers, and the third topic that discussed many wars, invasions and the emergence of the Emirates system that Spread in the middle and south of Iraq, which led to the emergence and spread of a large number of castles, towers and forts.
