Abstract AR
Abstract EN
This study examines the impact of climate fluctuations (persistent drought) in the lake Chad basin, which has been the subject of many disputes between the countries participating in the lake Chad Basin Committee (LCBC), namely, Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger and Chad, and in light of the joint impact of climate fluctuations in the basin.
the lack of rainfall, and the increased use of water from the lake and the rivers that feed it, have significantly reduced the area of Lake Chad over the past four decades, leaving the people of the Lake Chad Basin finding themselves in an alarming socio-economic situation.
where receding waters formed the emergence of new lands, which allowed the increase of new farming areas on the shores of the lake, the retreat also led to the emergence of many islands and blurred the perception of boundaries, international borders, competition for access to, and control of, new water resources and lands, transforming the lake basin to a region of tension, the control of these riches in an increasingly difficult environment, due to human and natural labor, has been the main issue of the border dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria in the Lake Chad Basin.
