Abstract EN

This research examines the judicial rulings on cases of insult and libel via WhatsApp; along with the national judicial attitude in the UAE towards characterization of and law applicable to such cases.

The aim is to come up with a uniform judicial attitude towards such cases in the UAE as several legal provisions addressing such cases are in place.

Analytical, descriptive method was used to illustrate rulings on cases of insult and libel via information technology means; analyze legal provisions applicable to such cases; examine judicial rulings on similar cases along with differences in application and the legal attitude which is in full compliance with law.

According to findings, the legislator formulated a comprehensive definition covering all existing means of information technology along with means to be introduced in future with the evolution of information technology.

There are also, according to findings, two judicial attitudes in the UAE’s courts towards law applicable to cases of insult and libel via WhatsApp.
