Abstract EN

Criminal Behavior results from the interaction of many factors (mental, social, economic, and genetic), and one of the most notable factors is unbalanced mental health dimensions.

Psychological interpretation focuses on the fact that criminal behaviors are results of the specificity of factors of the formation of the criminal's personality due to mental ill-health, for the following psychological dimensions (OCD – physical symptoms – anxiety - reactive sensitivity - depression – aggression - phobia – paranoia – psychosis).

The study aimed to identify the relationship and differences between mental health and criminal behavior and to detect the most affected mental health dimensions by the type of crime (drug theft) of inmates of the penal and correctional institutions.

The study used the quantitative curriculum (descriptive and analytical), and the sample consisted of 60 inmates of the Sharjah Penal and Correctional Institution.

The study tools included the Mental Health Scale and the Criminal Behavior Scale.

The results showed a negative relationship between mental health and criminal behavior in the (drug-theft) inmates' sample.

And also statistical differences between the type of the crime (drug-theft) on the criminal behavior scale, towards the inmates of the crime of theft, and the extent of the study's contribution to the following; the inmates of the drug have physical symptoms disorder, interactive sensitivity towards society, and isolation is a clear feature of them, which confirm that isolation and interactive sensitivity are an apparent reason in criminal Behavior's direction.

They also have severe depression and anxiety that forces them to hurt themselves by following criminal Behavior and fall again into drug crime.

The inmates of theft crimes have OCD, suspicions, internal and external aggression, numerous fears, some mental disorders, and psychosis, which lead them to fall into criminal Behavior and theft crimes which is consistent with the theory of stigma.
