Abstract EN

The Fadak farm project was chosen in Najaf governorate, invested by the upper holy shrine.

The project is located in the northwestern side of Najaf governorate, between longitudes 44 º 0' 18.78'' to 44º 7' 53.46'' east and latitude 31º 57' 54.38'' to 32º 2' 17.53'' north, in a total area of 35493 hectares.

To assess some properties of desert soils in determining their indices of quality and health in Fadak Farm Project / Najaf Governorate.

As 40 random surface samples were taken representing the farm from depth 0-0.3 m using the auger drilling tool and by determining the coordinates of those sites using the Global Positioning System (GPS).

Eight pedons were excavated representing the soils of the study area and their horizons were morphologically described.

It included measuring the chemical properties (electrical conductivity, soil reaction, carbonate minerals, cation exchange capacity, and organic matter).

The according of soil quality and health indices in relation to chemical characteristics was (16% ) of poor class of the total area of the project, while the percentage of the moderate class reached (84% ) of the total area of the project.
