Abstract EN

France, Britain and Germany are Considered the driving countries of European competition for the Gulf of Guinea as a diversified reservoir of labour and raw materials.

After these counties put their feet in the region by estabilishing forts and castles on the coasts of the Gulf of Guinea for the purpose of trade, this competition knew the height of its power in the mid- 19th century.

After that, the European countries adopted the policy of pentration inward by concluding trade agreements and treaties with kings and leaders of the region, these agreement and treaties which later turnrd into protection treaties that were the cause of the worsening relations between European countries, as they were guided in resolving their problems to the conclusion of bilateral treaties under which each country's spheres of influence are defined in the Gulf of Guinea region.
