Abstract EN

Sabran Mountain is a7-8 kms long and 2-3 kms wide plateau.

Geographically, it is located within Eshamayatain district to which Etturbah is the urban center in addition to its administrative significance as the capital city of Elhujariah.

Etturbah has become the capital city of Taiz governorate due to the migration of many displaced persons from Aden and other areas.

Sabran Mountain is bordered by Sabran and Madahej sub-districts to the east, Thabhan and Esseeriatayn sub-districts and Etturbah to the west, Sharjab sub district to the south, and Elmashareqah sub-district and Mahdan villages to the north.

Given such features, there are silly suggestions to turn the mountain into scattered settlements, on the one hand, and a military camp and a university, on the other.

The above voices have never taken into account that the waste and activities of such constructions would affect the environment of the neighboring areas and cause a lot of pollution to the water resources and nature.

The present study proposes to keep Sabran Mountain free from pollutions threatening its peaks that represent a source and course of rainfalls, which feed the groundwater reservoirs for the neighboring sub-districts.

The floods running onto its valleys feed the wells, dams, and pools in addition to irrigating the agricultural fields.

In case, the mountain is to be exploited by force without considering the area’s environmental particularity that could be done with the minimum effects by recompensing the landowners.

It would be good if the project is changed into a garden to serve the local community.

The present study highlights the essential services helpful for the communities around Sabran Mountain, namely the activities that go in line with the people’s values and do not cause water pollution.

I propose removing any recent constructions that may threaten the neighborhoods ’water security.

As for the garden project to be successful, it should be adopted by interested businessmen who have experiences in tourist investments and promotion.

The garden would be a breathing space for Elhujariah’s large population who lack such leisure places.

Those investors, however, must be highly acquainted with the environmental threats to Sabran Mountain.

The people inhabiting Sabran villages are in urgent need of more water to meet the increase in population.
