Abstract EN

The paper has dealt with the role of the Arab tribes in establishing the fur sultanate, and their relationship with the hawakeer and the homelands, and studying their political relationship with the fur sultans, from sultan suleiman solong 16401670-ad, until the period of Sultan Muhammad Hussein 18391873- ad.

the paper explained how these sultans were asking for military assistance and political support from these sheikhs, to lay the foundations of security and stability throughout the sultanate.

as these Arabs remained, they constituted the bond and political support for those sultans that are why the sultans gave the hawakir and homes in return for receiving their services.

this paved the way for giving tribal elders the right to administrate the affairs of their tribes.

this is because the british administration sought to strengthen the tribal authority, and to link the tribal leaders to it, as a protective shield from the excitement that could be caused by the new mahdist movement, led by sayyid abd al-rahman al-mahdi, during the second decade of the twentieth century.
