The events of the novel revolve around Salim Al-Hashimi, a university professor residing in Morocco, after a series of exiles that affected him, starting from his city of Baghdad and his homeland Iraq, through Lebanon, America, Boston and Texas, to Rabat and then Riyadh, after several life experiences that begin with alienation and end with nostalgia and longing.

And if the novel is the daughter of the city – as it is said – the places that have emerged clearly in this novel try to accommodate all the cities of the world, but it determines its course in seven cities that the narrator calls ports.

These ports are closely related to the place/love on the one hand, and to the number/seven on the other hand, to confer sanctity through this number on the subject at hand.

Therefore, the study was keen to stop at the most important station in Al-Hashimi’s life, which is the Fez station, in which he lived a unique love experience with Atheera, his resort to this station is a transition from the reality that he lived and lives, to the city/ dream that he seeks to.

Let us stop at an important question posed by the study regarding how Fez as the dream city is manifested in the novel?
