Abstract EN

This paper discusses the subject of agricultural activity in the city of Medina during the reign of King "Abdul Aziz Al Saud" through the lens of the treatise titled [Al Aʿlam Al Sʿudiyyah ʿAla Al Filahah Al Madaniyyah] by Sheikh "Ibrahim bin Ahmad bin Hamdi Kharbouti Al Madani".

The paper has several objectives; to provide an introduction to the author of the treatise Sheikh "Ibrahim bin Ahmad bin Hamdi Kharbouti Al Madani", to introduce the treatise (Al Aʿlam Al Sʿudiyyah ‘Ala Al Filahah Al Madaniyyah) and the information it contains, and to study the reality of the agricultural activity in Medina during the reign of King "Abdul Aziz Al Saud" through the mentioned document and to comment on its contents.

The author of this study adopted a scientific approach to the study and analysis of the historical data represented by (Al Aʿlam Al Sʿudiyyah ʿAla Al Filahah Al Madaniyyah) and extracted the information that fulfills the objectives of the research and answers its questions.

In addition, the author sought to delineate the vague characters, places and terms contained in the text using varied sources and references.

The research was brought to a close with several results including the validation of the name, lineage, and title of Sheikh "Hafiz Ibrahim bin Ahmad bin Hamdi Kharbouti Al Madani" and his most notable works.

The research examined how agricultural activity in Medina before the reign of King "Abdul Aziz Al Saud" passed through two phases; the first characterized by prosperity, and the second by an almost complete collapse.

It explored the impact the unification of Saudi Arabia under King "Abdul Aziz Al Saud" had on the flourishing of the agricultural activity in the city of Medina in particular.

The paper also specified the most important crops, yields and trees that were grown there, the methods that were employed in planting them, as well as in planting, cultivating and caring for date palm trees, and the types of date produce during that time period, in addition to the principal sources of water and irrigation methods.
