Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the role of strategic planning processes in improving the effectiveness of crisis management in Saudi universities, by identifying the degree of practice of strategic planning processes and the level of effectiveness of crisis management from the point of view of the heads of academic departments, and whether the strategic planning processes have an impact on improving the effectiveness of the management of crises.

In order to achieve this, the study used the descriptive approach, and the study tool “the questionnaire” was applied to a stratified random sample consisting of (138) head of an academic department.

The study concluded that the degree of practicing strategic planning processes in Saudi universities is “medium; The “Strategy Formulation” process came in the first place with a “high” degree of practice, while the “Environment Analysis” process came in the last with a “weak” degree of practice.

It was also found that the level of effectiveness of crisis management was “medium”; Where the dimension of "communication and information flow" came in first place with a rating of "medium", while the dimension of "response decision speed" came in the last rank with a rating of "weak".

The results of the study showed that there is a significant impact of strategic planning processes in improving the effectiveness of crisis management in Saudi universities.

; Where the process of "environmental analysis" was the most influential in improving the effectiveness of crisis management, followed by the process of "assessment and control"; This confirms the role of strategic planning processes in improving the effectiveness of crisis management.

The study recommended supporting strategic planning processes by promoting the culture and practices of environmental analysis and strategic assessment and control activities, activating communication and information systems in making response decisions and completing administrative and technical tasks, empowering leaders and activating the participation of academic departments in strategic planning processes.

Training department heads on performance management skills and work procedures during crises, creating crisis management centers and training specialized and multifunctional work teams in various faculties of the university.
