English Abstract

The paper aimed at emphasizing the importance of Suakin the main port in Sudan from the 14th century until 1905, and the Red Sea which considered as one of the world>s purest sea.

The geographical location of the Red Sea had played a very important role in the relation between Africa and the Arab World.

Suakin was the main trading port on the Sudanese coast following the decline of an earlier port, (Aidab) to the north during the 15th century.

It focuses on how to preserve the cultural heritage with unique styles of architecture, and to help in restoring parts of Suakin, and consolidating other parts, in order to make the site more interesting for visitors and tourists.

Tourism industry has emerged as one of the world’s largest industries, and Suakin is rich in cultural and natural heritage, and local traditions.

Mallinson, 2012 mention that Suakin is the last remaining example of the Red Sea Architectural Style, built in Coral Blocks between the 15th and 20th c, untouched since the 1920’s, it has fallen into decay following the earthquake of May 12th 1938.

The decay of the abandoned Red Sea port Suakin has, during the last few years, attained an alarming stage.

However, restoration is still possible and desirable, not only for the preservation of the best examples of architecture but in order to keep alive a valuable building tradition and to attract attention to a site favored by a particular beauty and a pleasant climate, Hansen.
