Abstract EN

Sudan is extremely suffering from long run tribal conflict which is due to the interaction of many factors; mostly effectives are the geographical ones which are associating with natural resources, environmental potentiality and population composition where occurring economic activities are found.

Tribal conflict in Sudan takes many forms associating with the factors mentioned before and also with, history of the constitution of the Sudanese State, the nature of the administrative systems implemented during successive governance eras, and with the problems of identity, ethnicity and religion.

This article works to explain the role of geographical factors in tribal conflict in Sudan, by scrutinizing the whole of the previously mentioned factors and putting them into a geographical context so as to interpret the nature of space - tribal conflict in Sudan.

The article depended on geographical and historical sources and on the accessed relevant scientific research.

These sources confirmed the richness of Sudan with natural resources that became a domain for tribal conflict as a result of “environmental determinism”, population composition, and the political- administrative governance which was alienating from the geographic reality.

Sudan needs to alleviate or to get rid of tribal conflict through managerial improvement of its natural resources and also to consider the geographical environmental conditions by relying on “determinism” of the local reality with its spatial, historical and population characteristics.
