Abstract EN

This study aims to investigate a natural source of ursolic acid.

Therefore four medicinal plants belonging to different families have been chosen Lavandula angustifolia Mill; MenthapulegiumL.

(Lamiaceae), Myrtuscommunis L.

)Myrtaceae) and Pelargonium odoratissimum L.

(Geraniaceae).

The leaves of studied plants were extracted by methanol using ultrasonic.

High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) was used to determine the content of Ursolic acidin methanolic extracts on silica gel 60 F254 TLC plates as stationary phase.

Mobile phase system was toluene: ethyl acetate: formic acid (4:1: 0.1 v/v/v).

Detection and quantification of ursolic acid was done by densitometric scanning at λ= 909nm.

The results showed that the concentrations of Ursolic acid in methanol extracts of L.

angustifolia, M.

communis and M.

pulegium leaves were 1.65, 0.65, 0.85 g/ 100g, respectively, while the methanol extract of P.

odoratissimum leaves doesn`t contain this compound.

As conclusion, L.

angustifolia is a good natural source of ursolic acid.
