The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a training program based on playing strategy to develop social skills among a sample of autistic children in Nablus.

the study sample consisted of 16 children with autism spectrum disorder, aged between 48- years.

the study sample was divided into a control group and an experimental group, each one consists of 7 males and one female children.

to achieve the purposes of the study and, two tools were employed : the social skills scale, and a training program was designed based on playing strategy.

the study followed the semi-experimental method and the results of the study indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the average scores for children with an autism spectrum disorder which were noted with the experimental group between the two scales.

the scores indicated a difference in the pre and post results, as the social skills scale showed a difference in the post results in areas of visual communication, social interaction, participation, self-adjusting, and emotional responses.

the results also indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the average scores for the control group and experimental group of the children with an autism spectrum disorder.

the differences were highlighted in the post results for the social skills scales in areas of visual communication, social interaction and participation, self-adjusting, and emotional responses, and also in the overall score.

the study suggested a number of recommendations, the most significant of which included increasing attention to autistic children's training programs, adopting a game-based strategy in preparing and developing programs for autistic children.

in addition, the study recommended expanding the time duration when performing these programs, doing more studies and scientific research regarding autism programs, and adopting and developing these programs from the relevant centers and institutions.
