Abstract EN

The study aims at investigating the reluctancy reasons of being a school principal and their treatment methods from the assistant principals’ perspectives in the sultanate of Oman.

the study adopted the mixed methods approaches integrating the quantitative and qualitative approach.

a questionnaire and a semi- structured interview were administered on two different samples.

the questionnaire was administered to a sample of 239 reluctant assistant principals and the interview was applied to 5 reluctant assistants.

the study revealed that the most important administrative and technical reasons lie in the absence of rewards and incentives’ system.

as for the personal and social reasons, the psychological pressure is resulted from the nature of principals’ work.

the results also indicated that there were statistically significant differences in the administrative and technical reasons attributed to gender in favour of male assistant principals.

there were also statistically significant differences in the personal and social factors, and the years of experience in favour of the assistant principals whose experience is less than 5 years.

based on the results, a set of remedial solutions were proposed to reduce the problem of reluctancy to be apply for school principal’s job.
