The Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's), like Indomethacin, is common used for pain relief, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties, but it’s chronic using increases probability of getting peptic and duodenum ulcers.

In this study we investigated the protective effects of living and heat killing Lactobacillus (L.B) against peptic mucosal injury that maybe formed as gastrointestinal adverse reaction of using Indomethacin.

Living L.B in daily dose 17.34 mg/kg, and heat killing L.B in daily dose 34 mg/kg showed protective role, by decreasing the Ulcer Index (UI), gastric ulcers depth, and inflammation in gastric tissue, and increasing preventive index (PI) in study rats, comparing with positive control group (p<0.05).

The best protecting results were shown in using heat killing L.B in daily dose 34 mg/kg, comparing with positive control group (p < 0.05).
