Some of Syrian ficus leaf compounds have been identified, by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.

It was found that the most abundant compound in the extracts is Rutin, with the percentage according to the other compounds in the aqueous and ethanolic extracts are, 61.90% and 78.79%, respectively.

The study also examined the effectiveness of these extracts in alpha amylase inhibition, in order to investigate the ability of these extracts to reduce blood sugar in vitro (in glass).

The IC50 value was 7.59 mg/ml for aqueous ficus leaf extract.

The amylase inhibitormode was determined, the Vmax and Micheles-Menten Km values were calculated of the Lineweaver-Burk equation.

The result showed that the inhibition was of a non- competitive type.
