Abstract EN

This research examines the factors that led to the downfall of the Fatimid Caliphate in Egypt in 567 AH / 1131 AD, namely the internal factors, which include: the dependence on the people of dhimmah, the ministers’ control over the regime, and the division of the Fatimid da'wa into Nizari and Musta’lite.

The external factors, however, included the Abbasid-Fatimid conflict and the Fatimid-Nuri conflict.

The internal and external factors interacted together to lead to the final form of the downfall of the caliphate after more than two centuries.

This confirmed that the collapse of civilizations is a slow but eventually a decisive process, and that we cannot favour one factor at the expense of the other, as they both contributed to the downfall.
