Abstract EN

The research focuses on the modern way of calculating zakat of palm trees practiced in the State of Qatar.

The calculation is based on arithmetic means by considering the highest production rate of one type of palm along with the lowest production rate of the type then divide them by two, so the result is the arithmetic average for the output of zakat for that one type of palm.

Two matters are novel; firstly: Discussing the theoretical and practical side of mathematical and modern way for calculating zakat of palm trees as viewed by the experts and specialists at the Ministry of Municipality in the State of Qatar.

Secondly: Revealing the validity of this arithmetic process in Islamic Shari’ah in the purview of the overall objectives, general rules, and jurisprudential aspects.

The central questions of the study are: Is it possible to calculate the zakat of palm trees by using the arithmetic mean? How far is it valid, and how is it impacting the contemporary applications? What is its validity in the light of Islamic Sharia? The study explained the calculation method in subject, its validity in the contemporary instance of the State of Qatar, the level of its accuracy as explained by the experts and the specialists, while considering the public interest as well as the need of the related parties in terms of by removing the hardship that befalls the owners of the palm fruit, while preserving the rights of those entitled to the receive the zakat.

The research followed the descriptive method for the precise description of information gathered, alongside the analytical and deductive methods.
