The new rules promulgated by the European legislature under the new inheritance Regulation (EU) No 650/2012 marked a radical shift in the mechanisms and controls adopted to determine the law applicable to disputes concerning of succession having cross-border implications.

The new laws have been established with a universal dimension, through which the law of any State could be applied to the legal case in question though the law belongs to a State that is not a member of the aforementioned system.

Thus, the legacies of Morocco's demise in the European Union States that are members of the Regulation are no longer governed by the laws that were determined by the old rules of attribution, be they those adopted at the level of personal law or State's law in which the inherited funds are located.
