Abstract EN

This study aims to measure the degree of economic diversification in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period from 2005 to 2018.

To measure the degree of economic diversification of exports our study relied on a descriptive analytical approach.

The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index was used to measure the degree of economic diversification.

The results showed that the Saudi economy achieved an increase in the degree of diversification of exports, which reveal the low control of the oil sector and the increase in non-oil exports.

The coefficient reached 0.07 in 2018, which is a low value close to zero, for the degree of complete diversification.

As the increase in export diversification is an achievement of the long-term strategic goals included in the development plans in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which supports the effectiveness and efficiency of the economic plans and policies that have been implemented with the aim of diversifying exports and promoting non-oil exports.
