Abstract EN

This paper came under the title “Constitutions of the transitional periods and the transition towards democracy in Sudan (1953-1985AD).” the paper aimed to identify the political developments that led to these transitional constitutions and to review the most important features of these transitional constitutions and how they dealt with the pressing issues in those periods, and to what extent they succeeded in resolving these issues.

the importance of the paper stems from the importance of the study in that it deals with study and discussion of the constitutions of the transitional periods in Sudan (1953-1985 AD), which are important and articulated periods in the modern and contemporary history of Sudan, due to its great influence on all events.

the paper starts from the premise that the failure to prepare temporary constitutions that keep pace with aspirations is the main reason for the failure of the transitional periods in Sudan, and the paper used the method of historical research that is based on presenting, narrating and analyzing facts.

the paper concluded with several conclusions, the most important of which is that transitional constitutions were preceded by agreements and charters that formed principles for these constitutions.

in addition to the failure of these transitional constitutions to meet the desires and aspirations of the masses and political forces, which led to the turmoil of the transitional periods.

the 1956 provisional constitution also remained the legal reference for the1964 and 1985 constitutions.

the democratic transformation was not achieved due to the failure of these constitutions.
