This study was based on the Ottoman documents found on the Ottoman archive, and they were written in Ottoman language (Old of Darfur (محمل) Turkish).

these documents dealt with the mahmal that was sent to mecca.

and they mentioned that that mahmal was so old, and it was one of the traditions of the Sultans of the region.

they also revealed the perspective the Ottoman Empire had about the mahmal of Darfur.

of course, the fact that the Ottoman documents dealt with this mahmal reflects the importance it had.
