Abstract EN

In this study, I dealt with the names of a number of villages in Wadi al-Hawad, to find out the significance of the name, its origin, and the views of the local population regarding the reason for naming.

Following the analytical descriptive approach, extrapolating the language dictionaries, the objectives: I seek to uncover the origin of these names, know the significance of these names, and the extent of the authenticity of the narrations transmitted by the people of these regions about them.

The importance of the study lies in clarifying some of the linguistic aspects of the names of these places and their relevance to the Arabic language, which is something that many people unaware of Relying on popular narratives in their interpretation takes them away from their origin and history.

The important finding of this study is that most of the local residents are unaware of the origin and meaning of these names.

They invent stories closer to fiction to explain the villages names, and most of these stories are based on popular narratives that are not based on evidence.
