Abstract EN

For many decades, criticism has mainly been concerned with literary texts.

Though, contemporary criticism is no longer concerned with literary texts only as it extended to involve all their surroundings as long as those surroundings constitute a base and a tool for understanding the text and for assisting the reader to better appreciate that text.

Therefore, this research tackles the “Parallel Text” in terms of its nature, functions, and sections and applies this Parallel Text to the novel of “The Memory of Body”.

In so doing, the research explains how the Parallel Text could enhance better perception of literary texts.
