This article intends to explain that the birth and elaboration of scientific and philosophical thought in the Islamic civilization was not only attained by the translation of inherited sources, in particular the Greek civilization, but also these resources were renewed and developed via active and creative research.

It is this research that has guided this translation and not the other way around.
