English Abstract

The research aimed to know the prevalent perceptual patterns of educational counselors in the directorates of education in the province of Baghdad.

The research sample consisted of (100) male and female counselors, (40) males, and (60) females, they were chosen by stratified random method from all directorates of education in the province of Baghdad.

In order to achieve the objectives of the research, it is required to have a scale to measure perceptual patterns, so the researchers adopted the perceptual patterns scale suggested by (Koster- Kim 1990), which was translated by (Al-Tikriti 1999).

The scale consists of (33) Items, and each Items represents a situation, and in front of each situation there is a set of alternatives, and each alternative indicates one of the three perceptual patterns (visual - auditory - sensory).

The scale is corrected by giving the Items one score according to the respondent's marking of the type of perceptual pattern in the scale of assessment, which represents the type of perceptual pattern that the respondent deems appropriate for the Item.

The respondents' score was calculated according to the repetitions they obtained for each of the three patterns on the scale.

A score of (1) is given to the alternative chosen by the respondents and a score of (zero) for the other two alternatives, and the predominant pattern of the respondent is the pattern that obtains the highest degree.

After extracting the new apparent validity and stability, the scale was applied to the sample members.

To reach the results of the research, the researchers used, through the statistical package (SPSS), analysis of variance and then the Scheffe test, and they also used the t-test for two independent samples to find out the significance of the differences according to the variables of sex and experience.

The results indicated that there is a difference between the prevalent perceptual styles of the counselors in favor of the visual style compared to the auditory and sensual style, and that there is no difference between the auditory style and the sensory style, and the results also indicated that there is no difference in the prevalent perceptual styles of educational counselors according to the variables of gender and experience.
