Abstract EN

In this study, the researcher aims at achieving the following goals: enabling interested people in contrastive studies to identify similarities and differences across Arabic prepositions and English ones.

It also helps translators identify the features and meanings of Arabic and English prepositions.

Moreover, translators will be directed to the significance of context to arrive at the appropriate meanings of prepositions.

The researcher arrived at spotting a relationship between Arabic prepositions and the English ones via identifying points of similarity and difference.

This is done through analyzing the functional behavior of these prepositions and their related meanings together with how to find the back equivalent on the level of meaning for every preposition.

Scholars posed common meanings of every preposition plus their secondary meanings.

Thus, the linguistic context is the decisive factor in deciding and selecting the intended meaning let alone the fact that some prepositions deviate from their common meanings.
