The covers of books and scientific worksare intended to capture the reader’s sensations at linguistic, visual, and iconographic levels; since it is a discourse that merges visual data and linguistic patterns.

both prompt the reader to uncover the textual interior to see how harmonious and well-matched the cover and the text are, as well as exploring the reasons behind the elaborate attention that writers and novelists commit to choosing their book covers language, picture, color to the actual content.

the reader, therefore, is compelled to contemplate the matter similar to how ancient arab poets stood by the ruins (al-Atlal), or reflecting on a memorial or a sculpture.

that is because book covers in their several images, geometric shapes, and colors; reflect the susurrations of the creative soul in all its twists and mysteries.

in the sense that, book covers are both a pictorial and formal space never without significance.

we seek through this article to explore the nature of the relationship between cover as a para-text and the text itself in Fatima Mernissi’s “the forgotten queens of Islam” and “Shahrazad goes West”.

we attempt to answer the following fundamental-question: how harmonious are the cover and the text, and what of the unspoken from the that relationship? - both frontal and back
