Under the Mamluk rule, the Levantine society was divided into classes, the highest of which was the rulers class, the merchant class, the craftsmen class, and the general peasant class.

The class of society, as the Levant witnessed in the Mamluk era Several economic crises, natural disasters and diseases led to a high rate of poverty and the occurrence of famines.

The Mamluk dynasty was keen to follow up on the conditions of the poor and try to alleviate their suffering through the establishment of welfare institutions for the poor, which were represented in mosques, ligaments, corners, gorges and schools, which had a great impact in alleviating the suffering of the poor.

Therefore, this study focuses on knowing and studying the conditions of the poor in the Mamluk era on the basis that it was one of the social forces that were ignored by historians and contemporaries, as well as the interest in rulers and sultans, and they neglected that segment that constitutes a vital part of society in the Levant during these two centuries.
