The desert has always been an attractive hotbed that marks travel, mobility and adventure.

thus, cinema has perpetuated it in international movies by highlighting its different poetic and symbolic dimensions.

the desert in the seventh art was not merely a static geographical area but rather a vivid space on its own in which events took place and characters interacted and was subject to climate and time change.

more importantly is the fact that it is regarded as a crucial symbol in cinema filled with connotations and embedded meanings related to the aim and context of the film.

this study seeks to capture the most essential meanings and symbolic connotations that the desert carries in cinematography, taking into consideration a prominent problem highlighted in this research, which is the relationship between the desert as a realistic space and its imaginative reflection in cinematic creativity.

to carry out this study, one has relied on an artistic approach that tracks the technical characteristics of each studied cinematic work, and a semiological approach that reveals the deep dimensions that the desert suggests as a cinematic image that crystallizes its shapes, colors and lights as a vast space.
