English Abstract

Some of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) strains have been used as eco-friendly biofertilizers to increase plant growth and the productivity.

A previous study showed that Bacillus megagaterium (SCR17) isolated from cotton roots had the ability to dissolve the rock phosphorous, nitrogen fixation (N2) and secrete indole acetic acid (IAA).

Laboratory results showed that SCR17 strain led to a significant increase in the values of growth indicators (wet and dry weight of plant shoot, plant height and root length) in cotton plants.

In this study, field experiments (using half-chemical fertilizer rates N2 and P) were conducted to evaluate the ability of this bacterial strain SCR17 to stimulate the growth of cotton plants and their productivity.

The results showed there was a significant increase in growth of cotton plants and the average weight of the staple / plant by more than 59% in SCR17-treated plats compared to control plants under field conditions.

This study highlights the possibility of using rhizobacteria as bio-fertilizers and the localization of this new bio-technology in Syria, which will contribute to reducing the huge quantities of chemical fertilizers used in order to develop a sustainable agriculture system.
