The Bush administration dealt with the Iranian nuclear file through the traditional realistic approach in international relations by emphasizing the security approach and maximizing the interests of the state in all respects, especially strategic ones, while the Obama administration adopted the liberal, utilitarian approach through multilateral diplomacy that gives a role to international organizations and for other players (Russia and Western Europe) in search of political and economic benefits, leading to the signing of the Vienna nuclear agreement in 2015.

As for the Trump administration, it returned matters to square one by withdrawing from this agreement and using the approach of force, not necessarily military, but the strength of the economic blockade and alliances with the threat of asylum to military force.

Trump focused on the "carrot and stick" policy that lies at the heart of his concept of the "art of the deal", which the man from the world of business and deals practice.

He used economic weapons to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons in his quest to conclude a deal with it.
