Abstract EN

The research aimed to identify the role of mathematics teachers in developing twenty first century skills among secondary school students in Najran educational district.

The research adopted the descriptive approach using a questionnaire prepared for this purpose.

The questionnaire was developed to measure the role of mathematics teachers in three areas:(learning and thinking, information technology, profession and life), in addition to identify the obstacles that prevent them from performing these roles.

A sample size of 150 mathematics teachers (male and female) was used to calculate overall results.

The research was conducted during the first semester of the year 1442A.

The results showed that the degree to which mathematics teachers performed their roles was generally high in the three areas.

The results also showed that the total degree of obstacles was high.

It was found also that there were statistically significant differences in the level of teachers roles according to the number of years of service and training courses, while there were no statistically significant differences related to gender.

It was also found that there were statistically significant differences in the level of obstacles according to gender and years of service, while there were no statistically significant differences based on the number of training courses.

Based on the result, it was recommended to design training programs for teachers in the field of twenty-first century skills based on students’ needs in each of the educational stages.
